Spring Fever

Here is a little photo tour of our day trip into DC to attend the Cherry Blossom Festival. Click on the pictures to make them larger.

We started by driving to where Kirk works and catching the metro to go downtown.
When we came out of the subway, we were at the Navy Memorial.

We got to attend the "Blessing of the Fleets" ceremony.
Passed down through generations of sailors, fishermen, merchant mariners and navies around the world, the centuries-old "Blessing of the Fleets" ceremony is intended to safeguard fishing crews and ships from the danger of the seas through a traditional blessing given by a clergyman at the water's edge.At the United States Navy Memorial, the ceremony's highlight occurs when Sailors from the U.S. Navy's Ceremonial Guard proceed across the Memorial Plaza's "Granite Sea" to pour water from the Seven Seas and the Great Lakes into the surrounding fountains "charging" them to life and ushering in the spring season. After the ceremony, everybody was invited into the Navy Heritage Center where we were served the traditional "Navy Bean Soup". It was really tasty!

Now, we are off to see the Mall and the Cherry Blossoms surrounding the mall area.

We saw a variety of people. There were probably only a million or two on that particular day.

There were many kites in the middle of the mall and Kirk thought we should walk right down the middle... we about got strangled a couple of times.

Can you see the Moon?

Nellysa
There was a lot of wind that day and so the flags were briskly waving.
And back to Washington Navy Yard via subway.
Bye -Bye
THE END!
