Severe Winter Weather!

We had our first snowfall of the winter. It is so funny to watch all of the commotion. It started with the news stations and their "live" updates while waiting for the big storm. We were out and about yesterday and it was raining. We pulled into the parking lot of Super WalMart and they literally had three "traffic control" guys. It is more crowded than at Christmas. Everybody was out getting stocked up for the big winter storm. All I needed was cat litter. Can't get through a snow storm without cat litter. I drove over to Target. No way was I going to mingle with the big crowds.
My "city-fied" kids (notice the shorts). They gathered snow off the cars and put it in that black bucket to build a snowman in our birdbath. They also threw some snowballs at each other.
We had just enough snow to cover the grass and roofs. It was nothing, but if you watched all the commotion, you would think that we were going to be stranded for weeks. Interesting.
Oh, what fun!

Project 1

This is Kirk's first project while he has been on leave. We took the antique carpet off of the stairs and sanded, stained, and varnished them.
I think it looks so much nicer. The picture below is before the last coat of varnish and we didn't have the trim put back up. I am still cleaning sawdust in every nook & cranny.

Weekend Getaway

Kirk & I were fortunate to get away together and go to the Outer Banks, NC.
We went to Mantio and walked along the waterfront. Above is the Mantio Light. We drove down to the Bodie Island Lighthouse and arrived at dusk. The lighting was just perfect. It was perfect sweatshirt weather.

Sunset across the sound. The lighthouse is behind me in this picture and the ocean is behind the lighthouse. The Outer Banks is a strip of sand between the ocean and sound.
This is the morning view of the ocean from our motel room.
This is the Hatteras Lighthouse. It is one of my favorites. It was starting to rain when we got down there, but it was still a nice drive.

Homecoming 2007

USS Enterprise Homecoming
December 19, 2007
Nellysa & Kelby watching the ship pull in.
Now mind you, it was December and the temperature was about 45 degrees or even colder on the pier. We were all bundled up, but this picture just goes to prove that you can see almost anything on a pier at a Navy Homecoming.
"Please take another picture of us Mom"
The tug and the port operations boat assisting with the mooring of the ship. A sight we like to see... a dropped anchor.
The last section of the brow going up.
Kirk's last homecoming! What a welcome sight!
Welcome Home!

Fall Photo's

FALL Pictures
Kelby ~ Age 13
Our annual fall trip to Yorktown didn't quite work out this year, so we went out in back of the church and took our fall pictures.

Nellysa ~ Age 15 Nelladee ~ Age ??

Nellysa got a hold of my camera and thought that I needed a "close-up". I guess I should keep a closer watch on that camera.

Halloween

The Young Men put together a haunted house and this is what Kelby dressed as to scare the kids.
On Halloween just as Kelby left the house to trick-or-treat for his last legal time, I snapped this picture. I couldn't help but notice the sign by the door. Maybe this should say "Leave" with honor.
Nellysa saying "I am NOT dressing up and going out in public".
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
